Rooting: And You Can Too!

I am going to put a hold on my "Privacy, Security, And You" post for now. I don't know how late I am to this party, but for a lot of phones that were difficult to root in the past are now one touch rootable. Now, please, please, please. Do not go trying to root your phone with out reading, knowing, and understanding what you are doing.

In fact, I'll go right out and say, Don't go rooting your phone. Go read about this process and make a decision. I'm just going to help spread the word about this. Note that this method is not designed for any specific phone, though there are some phones known for it not to work. My best suggestion is to have or use an alternative SD card as well because this process requires a formatted SD card.

Good luck, and spread the word.

On another note, if you do decide to root your phone, I highly recommend this be your first post-root app. Titanium Backup. This does two things. The first thing you should do is backup all of your system data and apps. If you ever shitbox your phone you'll be able to go fix it with this. The other thing this can do is remove bloatware if your phone has any.

  3. @TMH That is what the beauty of any proven 'one touch' rooting method. Before now, let's say you were running a version of android that was difficult to root; and by that I mean there was no one touch method. There would be risk due to the fact that it involved handling system files on your phone; remember, android phones are basically little linux computers that fit in your pocket.

When you have a One Touch method, it takes that risk away because you have a program thats been developed, tried and tested. Some people with Gingerbreak (this particular method) were saying they were 'Bricking their phones' because they got stuck at the boot menu, when that happened a simple hard reset got them going again. The best advice I can give you is to head over to Phandroid.com. Look up your phone, go to the "all things root" for that phone. If there isn't already a one touch root method such as z4root, there will most likely be one now for Gingerbreak. Read about what problems other users have had. Phandroid generally has very helpful members too, that are always looking to help people through the process, and if things do go wrong, help you get back on track.
